| Sinopsis: | The Annunciation II: VICTEORY (sic) presents an unseeing figure wearing a helmet that obstructs his vision and direction. Shown in extreme and vulnerable exertion, this figure of power occupies no man’s land, without popular support. This nude “knight” crawls across a vast bed of sand imprinted with Islamic patterns, inscribing the word “V-I-C-T-E-O-R-Y” (sic) with a heavy sword while uttering each letter, error and all. The sword is a replica of the one used by Richard the Lionheart during the Third Crusade in which he massacred thousands of Muslim prisoners. The helmet, with its eagle-beak visor, sheds its plume during his trek. |
