Mexican Ghoulash is a video piece edited from a series of eight Hi-8 tapes of anonymous origin found together in a second-hand market.
The idea behind the fast paced editing of some of the scenes contained within the tapes has been to trace the relation between an ordinary existence and violence within the interaction of the characters in the tapes.
In Mexican Ghoulash, language, ideas, recurrent behavioral patterns and violence interweave within the framework of the particular socio-cultural context of an average, middle-class Mexican family through their own personal selection of 聯significant moments聰, that is, scenes and gestures designed exclusively for the occasion of being filmed.
The found footage, like the tapes themselves, have been appropriated as recyclable material for the purpose of this work, and the identity of the characters has remained anonymous. |
